April Questions

Bloggers and Springers — Please read these questions and consider your answers. Our Horizons sponsors want to gain valid and reliable information about each Horizons community. The more you write, the better sense they can get about us, our strengths and weakness, and how they can support us through education, training and so on. HERE ARE THE APRIL QUESTIONS:

Please choose one or two questions in EACH category to address on your blog:

8. Sustaining action and creating structural change around leadership

What is your community’s plan for maintaining a strong community leadership system?

How can your community sustain the changes it has already made in its leadership?

What structural changes have been made in how the community does its work/makes decisions?

What structural changes have been made so that your community leadership sustains partnerships with others?

12. Sustaining action and creating structural change around community

How will your community make decisions about seeking further resources to support its plans?

Is a system in place to seek, receive, monitor and report on new resources to support community work?

Is a system in place to maintain contact with, or to continue to work with other communities? With your Delivery Organization? In other partnerships?

What new resources have been secured to assist the work of the community?

Is a system in place to maintain contact with, or to continue to work with other communities?

Our Children and Youth Task Force has developed an alliance with the community of Hill City by being incorporated under their Boys and Girls Club of the Black Hills corporation. Our local club will be called the Boys and Girls Club of Hot Springs but will fall under their corporate leadership. Members of our local board of directors will also serve on their board to promote ongoing cooperation and support between our two communities.

What new resources have been secured to assist the work of the community?

By going under the guidance of the nationally recognized Boys and Girls Clubs of America, our Hot Springs Horizons Youth and Children Task Force has uncovered a very important resource which will help guide us to hopefully a long and fruitful relationship. The BGCA has given us access to a wealth of knowledge and is actively guiding us in opening our own club in the coming months.

I’ve been told that the mission of Boys and Girls Clubs is in sync with the goal of Horizons, evidenced by their mission statement and core beliefs:

Mission: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

The core beliefs of our Club are exemplified in what we provide:

    · A safe place to learn and grow
    · Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals
    · Life-enhancing programs
    · Character development experiences
    · Hope and opportunity

These are great responses. I hope that more will decide to respond.

Also, I would sure like to see what other activities (besides youth) you think exemplify leadership development and community development.

Is the B & G club (a very important and wonderful achievement) the only thing that Hot Springs has to demonstrate its association with Horizons?

What happened to the rest of the goals in the Strategic Plan?
